For those of you who are friends and fans of Genius Collective’s twitter and Facebook pages, you will already be well aware of this, but for those you who aren’t, today is the day that Genius Collective begin their festival season for 2012! AND MY GOSH WE’RE DOING IT IN STYLE! We are lucky enough to be performing on the main stage at 4pm, supporting the legends that are Tallisman and Jonny Clarke! This is a truly awesome festival, and an ideal time for Genius Collective to be introduce a few new tunes to celebrate the summer, and more importantly welcome the beautiful vocals of Zoe Green to the Genius Collective stage!
With beautiful weather, amazing food, drinks, and of course the perfect company with the lovely people of Bristol, this is set to be an amazing day! So if you happen to be at the festival, please drop by the performance stage at 4pm to see Genius Collective, you won’t be disappointed!

Here’s a nice little number from Hull based MC Gardna. This fella has been making some serious moves over the last year, making serious musical waves among the Bristol and Bath Hip Hop scene, including working with legendary video maker Chris Lucas (Foreign Beggars, Sonny Jim, Twizzy and loads more!).
“Vinyl Records” came about after a chance encounter of Vice (GC’s MC and Producer) and Gardna whilst Vice was running the XLR Music Festival in Bristol. The track is a throwback to the beauty of wax, and sharing the love affair with a special lady, that kinda girl that every Hip Hop Head hopes for, who, as Gardna says “Wears my Wu Tang Tee whilst bunnin up the leaf”.
For now it’s just for listenning pleasure (no d/l) to introduce Vice and Gardna’s collaborative efforts, but look out for more future classics from the Birmingham / Bath collab.

LAZY HABITS:
2012 brings with it the long awaited debut album from Lazy Habits, which will be released this Spring, with a lead single and a full UK tour.
Uncompromising, infectious and original, Lazy Habits are ready to take their place amongst the growing stars of the UK Urban Music Scene. Inspired by New Orleans jazz, soul, hip hop, big bands of the 50’s and soaked in British culture, their eclectic sound packs a lasting and unforgettable punch, with the band describing themselves as “Beats, rhymes and brass of the highest calibre”
Originally the brainchild of one MC, the Hackney based outfit now stand as a full seven piece band, whose onstage energy is a colossal live experience that will keep you buzzing long after you’ve left the venue. Having notched up shows at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, The Roundhouse, KOKO and Sold Out The Jazz Cafe, hitting venues up and down the UK, supporting the likes of Mos Def, Soulwax, The Specials, Bonobo, Chali 2Na (Jurassic5) and Beardyman, Lazy Habits have won hearts and blown minds, proving they can take on any stage. They’ve smashed Glastonbury with their live performances, hosted and DJ’d on “The Other” and “Jazz World” stages, ticking off slots at Bestival, Lovebox, Green Man, The Big Chill, Soundwave, Secret Garden Party and Edinburgh Festival along the way, to mention just a few.
Their debut self-released EP ‘On the Wagon’ put the Habits on the radar of Taste Maker Huw Stephens, and blew up on the underground scene, selling out on pre-orders alone. Their most recent single ‘Starting Fires’ caused controversy as it was scheduled for release the week of the London riots and was consequently pulled from radio play lists across the board.
This is an exclusive preview of a forthcoming track “Ordinary Day” from Birmingham based Soul / Funk / Hip Hop band Genius Collective’s E=GC2 EP, coming later this year (2012) on Street Soul Productions. This version of the track is an exclusive rework by Vice, Genius Collective’s MC and Producer to celebrate the second collaboration with Jas Kandola of Dilated Films, the brilliant Birmingham based film company, who previously brought you Genius Collective’s Amy Winehouse tribute featuring Kezia Johnson on vocals.
This video drop is supported by 2 amazing independent clothing companies; Soap Box Clothing and Squared Roots Clothing.
Once we hit the first 1000 views, this track will become a free download!
This track illustrates Genius Collective’s diverse range of styles and influences, and is a constant crowd pleaser when performed live around the country at Genius Collective’s regular live shows.

Back in December 2011, a select bunch of avid Genius Collective and music fans alike braved the terrential rain, and bitter cold wether to join Genius Collective at their single launch party at The Yardbird (Birmingham, UK) for “Theory” f. Carvalho (flute) & Kezia Johnson (Vocals) and “The Hideout” f. Marika Diamond (vocals) and Willis (Trumpet). The night was a massive success, with the venue full to capacity and brilliant performances from Shelley Quarmby, Kinnie Dailey, Carvalho, DJ sets from the super funky Sam Redmore and Super soulful DJ Will of Soul Radio UK and a VERY special secret guest performance from New York based Zulu Nation member Why G? who offered an incredible freestyle set, backed by Genius Collective’s Bonez on keys, CJ Thompson on drums and after a few tracks an unexpected performance from GC’s guitarist Ste Sheldon and even Carvalho jumped on Tee Pett’s left handed bass (as a right handed player!) to complete the awesome set!
Camavision, the Birmingham based film production company rocked up to catch the performances, and this is the first of the set to give you a preview of whats to come! For those of you who are Midlands based, GC will be performing for the final time in Birmingham (until festival season) on 11th April at the Hare And Hounds, Kings Heath, to support the super duper group Lazy Habits.
Enjoy the awesome skills of Why G? and stay tuned for more soon!
